Airport Fuel SystemThompson Falls Airport Has Fuel

The new fuel system at the TF Airport is in operation as of December 2016. It is comparable to those systems at other Montana general aviation airports, such as Libby, Superior, Polson, Ronan, and Stevensville. Thompson Falls Airport Board members have been lobbying for a county-owned fuel system at the airport for 8 years, and project contributors include:

  • Sanders County (Owner)
  • Robert Peccia and Associates (Engineer)

The project was funded with FAA non-primary entitlement funds. This money comes from aviation fuel taxes and passenger ticket taxes. Additional funding came from a Montana Department of Transportation grant. The MDT grant came from a fund collected from Montana state aviation fuel taxes. There was also a private donor who contributed $15,000 to help with the initial fuel purchase. A portion of the taxes paid on the sale of the fuel from this tank will go back to the state and federal funds that helped to fund this fuel system. The new fuel system installed at the Thompson Falls Airport will contain up to 6000 gallons of 100 octane Low Lead (100LL) aviation fuel for piston engine aircraft. It will be available to the flying public 24/7/365 via a self-serve credit card terminal. If any problems occur while using the credit card system, please call 406-827-6924.
